This part of my basement has had but a single bare lightbulb over the sink. I finally got fed up and bought a couple of Harbor Freight LED shop lights. Man what a difference!

Kinja'd!!!

There was zero light over here.

Kinja'd!!!

Now I can finally show y’all the sweet vintage Hamm’s poster my wife put on the freezer.

Kinja'd!!!

The fixtures are made to be plugged in. Rather than hack the plug ends off, I simply wired an outlet to the light switch.

I did a similar for my in-laws. They had a crappy U-tube Florissant lamp that was hacked in place. I actually got shocked when I was getting ready to remove it. I had to throw the circuit, then chop it out and swapped in a LED 2x4 drop in for ceiling grid that was being pitched on a job site.

Much better. I also have them one for the garage later since they liked the basement one so much. I swapped it while we were house sitting, so it was a bit of a surprise when they got home.

Nicely done! The Hamms ad really pulls the room together.

I did a similar thing in the garage. It had those single bulb light fixtures so I removed those and wired in outlets that were on a plate so they could be used on a round box. A few plug in LED shop lights later I could actually see in there.

I thought about just using the outlet the garage door opener uses but then the lights wouldn’t be controlled by the light switch. This works much better.

After upgrading the lighting in my garage a few years ago , I can totally   imagine what the “before” pics must have looked like here .

(oh and hey , I have that same washing machine)

It was pretty dismissal before. I need to do the garage next.

Cool! The washer and dryer came with the house. A decade later, and they've never given us any trouble *knocks wood*

That cash register is fantastic. That would be fabulous to break out during garage sales.

Oh man! I want an old cash register like that. National built those just a couple miles from my house. How did you come across yours? If I ever come across one for a decent price I would love to spend some time restoring it.

This one is on display at a local flower shop.

Its a pretty cool piece, that's for sure. I believe my wife's uncle garbage picked it many moons ago. When we cleaned out my wife's aunt's house, it was one of the few things worth keeping.

I thought my garage lights were pretty good until I saw that idea. Some hanging LED bar lights would be an amazing addition to my work area.

Thanks for the tip!

Yep.

My cousin got arrested years ago for smashing the front window of a bridal shop, grabbing the cash register, and taking off. He was tackled by a bystander and arrested.

My cousin, as you may have gathered, is a friggin moron.

I hung LED bulbs in the Laundry and painted the surrounding walls gloss white.
